Welcome
to the NAPSG web page! Designed primarily for our members,
we welcome visitors to this site as well. The NAPSG mission is to
further the professional growth of its members by providing a
forum in which issues pertinent to the education of girls and
young women are presented and discussed. School heads and other
representatives of member schools and colleges meet to address
issues ranging from curricular and administrative policies to
moral education and the role of women in a complex and changing
world.
Our
HistoryOrganized in 1920 and operated exclusively for
charitable and educational purposes as a tax exempt 501(c)(3)
entity, NAPSG is an association of approximately 625 members:
heads and other administrators of Independent schools enrolling
girls, and executives of colleges, representing wide geographical
diversity. Since an increasing number of formerly schools for
girls are now coeducational, the name of the organization should
not be construed to mean that NAPSG membership is confined to
schools for girls. An Executive Council of approximately fifteen
elected and appointed members directs the Association, which now
employs a part-time Executive Director.
Two
National EventsA three day Annual Meeting is held in a
different location each year, just prior to the Annual Meeting of
NAIS, the National Association of Independent Schools. Outstanding
speakers are invited, and the meeting is an excellent forum for
the discussion of innovations, trends and mutual issues in
schools, with strong emphasis on the education of girls and young
women. School heads are expected to attend the annual meeting at
least once every three years. Of equal value to participants is
the opportunity to know other members, both school and college,
and to talk freely with them in an association which has the
unique features of diversity and intimacy. NAPSG has been
characterized by many as "one of the most friendly groups to which
I belong".
Administrative
Leadership Seminar for Women Since 1985, NAPSG also has
sponsored an annual seminar, led by women, for women. Many of the
graduates of past seminars now head schools around the world. This
event has grown in popularity, and we suggest applicants apply
early.
