Membership
in the Association is open to Independent schools enrolling girls
in the United States and Canada. In order to be eligible for
membership, a school must be a member of the National Association
of Independent Schools, the Canadian Association of Independent
Schools, or be accredited by one of the NAIS accrediting bodies or
by one of the six federally recognized school/college accrediting
bodies. Membership is also open to colleges enrolling women. Upon
applying for membership, schools and colleges are required to be
sponsored by two current members of NAPSG and are subject to
election by vote of the Executive Council.
There
are five classes of membership:
Schools
are admitted to NAPSG and eligible to appoint two
members:
1.
Principal Member
- The head or chief executive officer of an independent school is
the chief representative, and voting member, of that school.
Principal members are required to attend at least one annual
meeting every three years in order to maintain the school's
membership in the Association;
2.
Associate Member
- A member of a school's academic administration may be appointed
by the principal member to be the school's associate member.
Associate members may vote only in the absence of the principal
member;
Individuals
may belong to NAPSG as well:
3.
College Member
- An executive of a college enrolling women is the representative
of the college, but may not vote or hold elective
office;
4.
Affiliate Member
- Any former principal member who is no longer a head or who goes
to a school not eligible for membership may become an affiliate
member. Affiliate members are entitled to the privileges of active
membership, but may not vote or hold office.
Affiliate
members who become Head of a school eligible for NAPSG membership
are expected to bring that school into membership within two
years, or give up their Affiliate status.
5.

- An honorary member is usually a past president of the
Association, but may be another person nominated by the Executive
Council and elected by the Association.
